SPECTRUM All Hands Meeting

In January, partners of SPECTRUM gathered at CERN for a three-day meeting to address the development of an exabyte-scale data federation and compute continuum. Launched in 2024, SPECTRUM aims to create a Strategic Research, Innovation and Deployment Agenda (SRIDA) along with a Technical Blueprint for Europe’s future computing infrastructure.
With data demands rapidly increasing in areas like High-Energy Physics (HEP) and Radio Astronomy (RA), the project unites leading scientific institutions, including CERN and SKAO, alongside key e-infrastructure providers, to equip Europe for these growing computational challenges. The event, held at the CERN IT Amphitheatre and hosted by CERN openlab, brought together representatives from partners EGI, CERN, CNRS, OCA, INFN, ASTRON, Neovia Innovation, FZJ, SURF, and CINECA.
The discussions focused on coordinating efforts, addressing shared challenges, and setting priorities for the second half of the project. To fully leverage these capabilities for scientific and industrial innovation, participants emphasized the importance of collaborative policies, unified strategies, and energy-efficient, adaptable infrastructure. Part of the meeting was also dedicated to a workshop about communication, dissemination and exploitation, that will help the project to gear up for its second half.
Stay tuned for the release of our first batch of project results and deliverables at the end of March 2025: use case analysis, access policy recommendations, and landscape analysis.
A big thank you to the CERN team for hosting us, and for facilitating the amazing visit to the ATLAS experiment.
